Youth Leadership Development Program

As part of our Youth Development initiative NFC is currently offering two programs,  Bright Youth United for the Future and the Neighborhood Rec Program.  Both Programs are co-ed and are serving children 6-12 years of age in Gainesville-Hall County. These programs are  designed to help support the academic, physical, recreational, cultural, health and wellness needs of children in the community.

Our goals are to create safe spaces for children and youth to come together, build relationships, learn team building skills and the importance of volunteering, gain a respect for community service and to simply have fun.

The Neighborhood Rec Program is available during the  summer from July 10th- August 3rd. Activities take place at Desota Park on Monday- Thursday from 9am til 6pm.

Bright Youth meets every 3rd Saturday. The young people learn how to preside over meetings, the roles of officers, how to take minutes and engage in project planning. NFC also provides a healthy meal to ensure that no child comes or leaves hungry. Every other month the group plans a community service project to give back to the community. In February, BYU prepared lunch meals for the homeless, living in camps, in partnership with Michael Fisher at Ninth District Opportunity. They were also able to dress up and attend the Black History Society’s GALA event. Most had never attended a dress up affair before. Bright Youth also held a community cleanup day and participated in the Memorial Day parade.
